“I’m Hookman Jones Bitch” ( In my Hookman Jones Voice)..lol I’ve always wanted say that its like a trademark now in the club scene in Palm Beach …Thanks for joining us tho Fam How’s everything on your end?
Hookman Jones: everything is going great Jeff man I can't complain. Mixtapes are still pumping and the brand continues to grow. Thanks for having me.
For the minimal few who have been living under a rock please bless them with the introduction of who you are and what you do?
Hookman Jones: well I'm a mixtape Dj and I distribute new music from independent artist through a series of Mixtapes and I have been doing so for the past 4 years. I've had Mixtapes sent and distributed all over the southeast market. I love what I do and I love helping artist get there music broken.
So how did you get started in this whole DJ thing what made you want to get into it?
Hookman Jones: well most don't know I actually started from hosting open mics with my partner Lowron. I started really interacting with the local music scene. Before I knew it I was just always meeting new artist. Back then the mixtape game was one of the most resourceful tools to get your music out before social media came to rise. So I decided that I would start putting together Mixtapes with brand new exclusive music from independent artist. From there it took off like wild fire.
How did the stage name Hookman came about as well as the trademark saying that follows it?
Hookman Jones: "Hookman" actually came from writing a few hooks here and there in the studio back in the day and it was catchy to the fellas so it kind of just stuck with me.
You’ve been known to have that 3rd ear and can call out a hit when you hear it, What is the first thing you’re listening for when hearing a new record from an Indie Artist?
Hookman Jones: To be honest Jeff the first thing I listen for is quality production. People can say listen to the lyrics first but to me that's just not true. You don't see a ugly girl and say she may have a awesome personality let me go find out. You notice physical beauty before words are exchanged. To me the same applies when hearing a great record. You will always here the production first before the words and if the lyrics are great you will know when the club will feel this record or not.
You also tend to take those records and incorporate them into your “Take Over” Mixtape series which I believe is 10 tapes strong at the present moment correct?
Hookman Jones: yes I'm actually now just wrapping up take over 11 and it got some good news for 12 and 13 that I think will take the brand to the next level.
With the success of the “Take Over” Mixtape series are you going to continue it or follow with a new series of tapes sometime in the near future?
Hookman Jones: I thought about switching the series up to keep fresh but in all honesty Jeff I don't want to fix something that's not broken. People love the series so I'm going to keep rocking with it.
Amongst being a DJ and a voice of music in the Plam Beach County Area I’ve also seen you on a few scenes with a Camera on hand capturing footage of different events are you also getting into videoagprahy?
Hookman Jones: def not. Lol. Sometimes we are in the moment of making history and no one is there to catch those rare moments on the rise to the top. I'm multitalented when it comes to dealing with this business so I never lose out on a chance to grab footage.
With that being said what is the next step for Hookman Jones ?
Hookman Jones: I have the ball rolling on some big things and a brand new brand that I'm launching soon. Can't speak on it to much but just know you will be seeing a lot of me and hearing a lot of me. Lol
How can Artist send you music, keep up with your movment and or follow you overall?
Hookman Jones: The best way is through email and social networks. Twitter & Instagram is @hookmanjones and my email is firstname.lastname@example.org
Anything else you want to share?
Hookman Jones: No one can tell you what you can't do man I started a brand from nothing, from just a idea and it's brought me a long way. Believe in yourself and invest in yourself and the sky is the limit.
